More F-35s in the defense budget
Secretary Gates cut the F-22 Raptor program in his proposed 2010 defense budget, but is proposing more F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft.
Those fighters, although not operational yet, could come to Alabama.
The 187th Fighter Wing of the Alabama Air National Guard at Dannelly Field flies F-16s now and has been included on the Pentagon's road map for new weapons systems. It would be years out, but the wing is in line for the F-35 to replace their aging F-16 Fighting Falcon fleet.
