187th Fighter Wing airmen win state awards

The following airmen were selected as the 187th Fighter Wing Outstanding Airmen of the Year.

The wing's winners will represent Alabama to compete in the Air National Guard category.

The winners are:

Master Sergeant Lisa McDay

McDay is a resident of Hayneville and a 1991 graduate of Calhoun High School. In September 1994, she enlisted in the Alabama Air National Guard. McDay took full advantage of her educational benefits and graduated from Troy State University at Montgomery in 2005 with a Bachelors in Human Resource Management.

McDay is a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy graduate and was awarded the 2008 Graduate of the Year by the local chapter of the Non-Commissioned Graduates Association.

She is active in multiple community and base organizations, but has a special passion for serving the youth in her home church.

McDay is assigned to the 187th Aircraft Generation Squadron at Dannelly Field in Montgomery.

Technical Sergeant Daniel Glore

Glore enlisted in the active component of the Air Force in September 1987 as Fuels Specialist and joined the Alabama Air National Guard in February 1993. During his 20 years of service, Glore has served in multiple deployments in support of Operation Northern Watch and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In January 2003, Glore was deployed to an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia, followed by a 2006 deployment to Balad AB, Iraq, for 120 days.

Glore serves as Vice-President of the Southeast Regional Burn Support Group where he shares his testimony of experience with personal trauma. He also volunteers for and coordinates need- based support with the UAB Case Manager.

Glore and his wife, Christine, reside in Birmingham and are members of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Glore is currently assigned as First Sergeant in the 187th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Dannelly Field in Montgomery.

Staff Sergeant Luis Enriquez

Enriquez enlisted in the Air Force in 1982 and was honorably discharged after four years of service. Enriquez returned to military service in 2004, with a brief stint in the Alabama Army National Guard. Enriquez later transferred to the Alabama Air National Guard as a Communications-Computer Systems Controller.

Enriquez lives in Montgomery with his wife, Deborah, and his two children, Lorenzo and Ariel.

Enriquez is currently assigned to the 187th Communications Flight at Dannelly Field in Montgomery.

Senior Master Sergeant Steve Russell

Russell is a 1976 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and a 1978 graduate of John Patterson State Technical College, receiving an Associates of Science degree in Electronics Technology. Russell is also a 1990 graduate of Troy State University in Montgomery, earning a degree in Computer Science.

Russell enlisted in the Alabama Air National Guard in March 1980 and served with the 117th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing in Birmingham until his transfer to the 187th Fighter Wing in February 1994, where he served as an Electronic Warfare Specialist.

Russell was activated in February 2003 to support Operation Noble Eagle and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Immediately following his activation, Russell was deployed to an undisclosed location and assigned to the 410th Air Expeditionary Wing, where he was responsible for providing air support for the ground war in Iraq.

Upon his return from his combat deployment, SMSgt Russell was selected as First Sergeant of the 187th Mission Support Group, serving unit airmen as they continued to deploy in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Hurricane Katrina Relief Support.

In 2005, Russell was awarded the 187th Fighter Wing First Sergeant of the Year Award and was selected to represent the Wing at the First Sergeants World Wide Conference.

Russell’s active community involvement includes volunteer work and support of local charities, coaching youth soccer and serving with the PTSA of the Brew Tech Magnet School. Russell is also an active member of the Eastdale Baptist Church, where he serves on the Deacon Board.

Russell resides in Montgomery with his wife, Vicki, and two children, Taylor and Hannah. Russell is currently assigned as First Sergeant in the 187th Mission Support Group at Dannelly Field in Montgomery.
