Hometown News-Pfc. Alex Pettway

Army National Guard Pfc. Alex L. Pettway has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

He is the son of Janice Huffman of Vista Terrace Drive, Montgomery.
The private is a 1998 graduate of Carver High School, Montgomery.

Hometown News--Airman Zachary Wolfe


Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Zachary J. Wolfe has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, core values, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate in applied science degree relating through the Community College of the Air Force.

He is the son of Kevin Wolfe of Drexel Road, Montgomery.

The airman is a 2008 graduate of Evangel Christian Academy, Montgomery.

Military and Overseas Voting Task Force meets Thursday

Secretary of State Beth Chapman has been pushing the legislature to make it easier for military and overseas citizens to vote for awhile now.

She and her staff have drafted legislation to follow Florida's electronic military voting pilot. The Military and Overseas Voting Task Force, which she chairs, will meet Thursday to discuss and finalize the legislation.

The legislation that Chapman and her staff propose also combined successful legislation of both the State of Georgia and Indiana which have already passed Photo Voter I.D. laws.

Hometown News-Pvt. Timothy Barton

Army Pvt. Timothy S. Barton Sr. has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

He is the son of Pauline and Andrew Barton of Spanish Oak Drive, Prattville.

Barton is a 2000 graduate of Prattville High School.

Hometown News- Spec. Lisa Randall

Army National Guard Spec. Lisa M. Randall is currently deployed in Iraq to support the mission of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Randall is a health care specialist (combat medic) with more than two years of military service.

She is the daughter of Timothy E. and Michelle Raines of Tram Road, Marbury.

Her husband, Steven, is the son of David and Sherri D. Randall of Steinburg Lane, Fort Worth, Texas.

The specialist graduated in 2007 from Stanhope-Elmore High School, Millbrook.
